According to Australian press, surf company RipCurl is for sale for a cool $500 million. Now as much as I am saddened by the thought of another surf company going down, I cant say I never saw this coming. For 500 mill what exactly are you getting? 2 wetsuits, because all their money is tied up in Mick, Gabriel, Owen and the 19 events that they have on tour? They are only projected to make around $50 mill this year before tax so I think this is wishful thinking. I think putting this figure on the brand is like putting lipstick on a pig. Lets just hope who ever decides to buy them doesn’t see this add of Mick because it would bring the value down hugely.
Good luck to Neil and the crew though I hope they find success and keep sponsoring surfers.

This footage is from a trip I did to Bali this year with Kelly. Quiksilver sent me there as apart of my new gig and I felt really lucky to be able to go surf with him. It’s actually semi depressing because he really is so much better than anyone else. We would be surfing 3 foot Keramas and out of no where he would get a 6 foot wave and get drained across the reef then launch a huge air that I have never seen before. He was really in tune and i was really out of tune. I still had a piece of wood lodged in my foot which just last week I had surgically removed and I had come off a big weekend at Coachella. I broke all my boards the first day at huge Kerama’s and I was just all round having a shocker. I did manage to get a few and i learnt more in that week of surfing then the rest of my surfing life combined. The talking on the clip is Charles Manson from a interview he did when he first got locked up. Its pretty creepy but he has a few points. Shitty quality video because i am to cheap to buy vimeo plus and please excuse all the typo’s. Seems like people hate typos more then they hate my rumors, its pretty weird. Anyway if you like it thanks if you dont i am sure you are going to tell me about it.

In a sad end to an era Billabong have had to give up the J Bay event to the highest bidder. After perfect waves for this years 6 star w.q.s the ASP have rightfully said it needs to be a World Championship Tour Event again. Unfortunately Billabongs current financial situation will make it impossible for them to commit to next years event. So now its for the taking and Mr Price have been turned down already. So which of the big 5 will get it?

Here is a little back story about this email. Some maniac from Florida got hold of Kelly’s email and sent him a couple really rude and disturbing emails. Kelly responded once or twice and the guy stopped. Fast forward 8 months or so and Kelly tweets about the effects milk has on our bodies. Then the night before the Bells event is set to start Kelly receives this email from Gabe. Its really entertaining and Kelly thought it would be perfect for DoomasRumors. I hope you enjoy and I hope milk doesn’t have this effect on your body. Thanks to Kelly for the email and for being such a good sport.

Dooma

When i heard about Volcom going into Costco I didn’t want to believe it. One of the last core brand that stands against conformity-sinking lower then walmart? Along with a nice new SUP stand Costco are selling VOLCOM tee’s for $8.99. What has happened to the surf industry? I have heard its a mistake and a third party is responsible but Volcom need to sue somebody or do something about it.

I know everyone has to make money but surely this isn’t the way. Do brands not care about their long term image? Billabong have replaced CEO Derek O’Neill (maybe because his last name is another surf brand?) with the ex CEO from Target. Surfers built these brands and did something right to have gotten them this far. Don’t lose faith just yet Quiksilver pulled through in a way tougher time.

Dooma

I started writing this last night and it became a bit of a hate piece but half way through writing it I decided to watch the film Senna. Its about a brazilian Formula 1 driver that brought a nation together and truly was sports great. Throughout the movie i started realizing that I dont think many of us understand the passion that brazilian people feel. I think its so strong that it takes over there body and they really do get lost in the moment.
So i decided to tone down this piece and give you just the facts. Watch the movie Senna for a full understanding its amazing. Its not easy for the Brazzos but all we ask is for a bit of humility.

There is no denying that Gabe’s victory was nothing short of amazing and he proved to all that he will be world champ. It was the antics of his people on the the beach that was nothing short of embarrassing. During one of his heats his dad didn’t agree on a score the judges awarded him. He made this known by going crazy at the judges, screaming and swearing in portuguese. What he didn’t realize was that one of the judges is Brazilian and understood what he was saying. For this he was awarded a $5000 fine and asked to take it easy. Gabe’s dad really needs to calm down during his heats and not create such a spectacle. The way they were carrying on when he got the scroe against simpo was hard to watch. His career is going to be long and it will bring a lot more calls that wont be fair so the sooner the old boy starts accepting that in surfing we cant change the scores the better for all. Its just surfing after all and the more crazy characters, the more exciting the sport so maybe go as crazy as you can it sure is entertaining.
Dooma

After a heavy week of charging in Indo and Fiji it was only a matter of time before the champ bounced off the reef once or twice. The latter the more fatal which put him out of the Billabong Pro Rio. I was lucky enough to spend a week with Kelly in Indo and some of the airs he was doing would have rivaled Gabes Lowers performance. If you have the king on your fantasy surfer team take him out before the comp starts. Does this mean he isnt going to do a full year on tour? DoomasRumors knows but you will have to wait and see. Maybe he is just giving the rest a chance to keep it exciting? You be the judge.
Dooma

Here are a few clips from a trip I did to Mexico this year with Dusty and Alex Grey. We got some pretty mental waves but unfortunately no ones boards arrived and what boards we did have we broke really quickly. Shane Dorian, Dane and everybody happened to be here as well and after the trip naturally the mags released a story about it. The article didn’t go down so well with the locals (a little cheeky) and for the next two years photography of this place has been banned. This is the last footage I have from here and this place is very dear to me. Its a escape from the horrible waves of southern California and after a few days here i feel like a surfer again, sun burnt and surfed out. I hope the locals can forgive us and let us surf their waves again. Thanks to Matt Shuster for the clips.

By now this is old news but people keep hitting me up about it so here you go. Paul Fisher and Lindsay Lohan have been getting it on. After rocking up in Hawaii and hanging with Blair Marlin, she quickly moved onto the Fish. Word has it Blair couldn’t handle the mad women anymore and palmed her onto Paul where he wasted no time in doing the dirty. Rumor has it he flew back to L.A with her and has been her slave ever since.
